Common problems / Re: Prevent saving in Historical actions
« on: April 08, 2020, 09:19:09 AM »
FYI - Pivotal 6.0.x 'history' used to be saved in a file on the users machine. This was changed with a later service pack (or with a 6.5x release) so that the history is saved in the users table - its a binary.

Common problems / Re: Application Roles with Windows Client

I've seen Pivotal customers use it, so I know it works, but I've never implemented it myself, though that may have to change in the near future. I'll be implementing it for a P65x smart client system, however.

Basically, my understanding is that this is just taking advantage of some Microsoft SQL Server tech - there's nothing really Pivotal about it, other than you allow Pivotal through so that it can access the databases.

General Discussion / Re: Is this forum dead?
« on: October 14, 2019, 05:25:28 AM »
its not completely dead; its just that people stopped using this, so not that many 3rd party people login anymore.

I don't generally post questions (I'm more of an answer guy), but I'll start looking into the forum more often, if that helps :-)

Just to confirm with everyone - theme-ing is basically available with Pivotal 6.6.

Yes - you can finally more away from the tired old 'sky blue' theme! Yay! Note that there are still some limitations (and a lot of them), but change is in the wind!

the best you can do with Pivotal is some modification if the instance.xml file that you'll find in the "C:\Program Files\CDC Software\Smart
Updater\40\instances\PivotalClient\6.5.x.0" folder

This allows you to change the Pivotal icon, start menu options (i.e. folder structure and application name), etc..

If you look at the Pivotal CRM - 6.5.2 Installation and Deployment Guide, and search for instance.xml, you'll find more detail.

Note: you cannot change the colour scheme in Pivotal 6; as the old head of Pivotal CRM R&D used to say at various customer & partner conferences: "you can have any colour you want as long as it is powder blue!"

that only works with the newer version of Pivotal PSS6 SP8 and higher. If you are using an older version of Pivotal then use

select * from users where lkey is not null
select * from users where mlkey is not null

There were 2 different license fields (one for LAN and one for Mobile users) on older versions

Is it just me or are there compatibility issues between Pivotal 6.5 and SharePoint Foundation 2013? Has anyone else tried this combination yet?

Basically I'm finding that the Portal Resources 6.5 installer starts then stops saying that 'it cannot detect the required SharePoint version', so nothing gets installed....

General Discussion / Re: Run Pivotal 5.9 on IE 11 - here's how
« on: March 27, 2014, 03:26:45 AM »
P6 compatibility for IE11 is supposed to be released this week in a Toolkit hot fix. Note that this is the ONLY IE compatibility issue that I'm aware of with P6, as P6 isn't supposed to use IE (but I guess someone forgot to remove the IE component out of the Windows Client frame that the P6 Toolkit uses)....

W8.1 support for P6 is supposed to be released next month - I confirmed this with my contacts last week.

IE11 support for P6 is supposed to be released this week - I confirmed this with my contact week.

I also reached out and asked someone to see about publishing KB21271, since I'd like to know what's in that KB since GTS have pointed you at it. I suspect it'll just be a duplicate of the other KB, but you never know.

Carl - ever the pessimist ;-)

Take heart - just had it confirmed today that Aptean is releasing P6 compatibility patches for IE11 tomorrow (which means later this month). Also confirmed with their Prod Management that W8 is still on track for April.

And here's a BIG surprise that I've just heard about thru the grapevine that would be good for customers still not on P6 (no I can't tell you who, or I'll have to kill you, which would be no mean feat via a forum entry :-) ) - Pivotal 5.9 support for x64!!?? Does this mean we'll be able to deploy P59 on W2008R2? Apparently this is being announced & released this month!

Looks to me like Aptean is finally getting it's collective *ss in gear.

As for the GlassDoor comment below - I would recommend taking a lot of the bad comments (and the good ones too; seems to be split about 50:50 now) with a pinch of salt - the company has been in massive flux for the past 3 years. CDC was run by a madman, then the first set of management running Aptean after CDC and Consona merged were completely clueless (if in doubt, have a look at who is left from the original management team that started when Aptean was formed - none of them!), and while the new management were slow to make any decisions, they're starting to make them now, and I'm sure we're going to hear about them in some detail at both Edge and whatever they put on for the rest of the world.

At this point, ANY decision making and management / product direction from a Pivotal product point of view has to be better than none (which is what's been happening for the past 2-3 years).

Tokara is a NA Aptean partner + almost everyone in their Pivotal group is ex-Pivotal. Lot of good talent there.

Carl, Dean, if you two "Pivotal lifers" are feeling frustrated, imagine what it must feel like to the long term Pivotal employees still left at Aptean. From what I hear, they are just as in the dark as you are.

Having said that, it appears that Aptean are in the process of solidifying their product direction and that it will soon to be released to the customer/partner/employee base - probably at the Edge conference in Vegas. The biggest change I've already heard about is the fact that Pivotal CRM is going to start moving away from device specific mobility applications (i.e. Pivotal for iPad) and start building out a new mobility solution based on HTML5. On top of that, 2014 is the year for Thin Client development (about bloody time) and we should see a completely new / updated Thin Client release by the end of 2014. Beyond that, it also looks like Aptean have finally settled on a BI tool (Qlikview), though any Pivotal integration is probably a ways off, and there are rumours of an overall integration platform strategy to bring ALL of their products together so that they can easily communicate with each other. The grapevine suggests that another Aptean product called EMF (Java based) will be the glue that holds everything together.

Last but not least, we're finally seeing Aptean do some work with compatibility as a host of long awaited compatibility issues are being addressed - Office 2013, IE10, SQL, SharePoint, etc, compatibility releases have already been made .. I've also been told that Office 365 support MIGHT happen this year, as well as Aptean starting to look more seriously at Google Docs (though nothing indicates they're committed to supporting it in the near future). Oh yea - Windows 8.1 Support should be out in March or April 2014, too...

IMHO, 2014 will either make or break Pivotal as a viable CRM solution

Aptean announced Pivotal CRM support for IE10 this month (March 2014), but no word on IE11 yet - I'll chase my contacts at Pivotal to see if they can shed some light on the issue

General Discussion / Re: Pivotal Training
« on: March 20, 2014, 01:29:28 AM »
Carl is correct - if you want Pivotal training (other than reading the massive amount of documentation that is not always clear), your best bet is to contact Aptean and ask about the training courses they schedule.

Upgrading to a newer version / Re: Pivotal iPad App - Work Offline
« on: December 02, 2013, 09:57:15 AM »
Whoever told you this information is WRONG!

the Device Client (iPad) ONLY caches record information on the iPad as the records are loaded by the user. When the iPad is then offline, then user can access that cached information in Read-Only mode, as a convenience (like most iPad apps).

Also, there is NO synchronization with the iPad client; if you don't have an online connection, you cannot update data via the iPad client.
