Kinda silent on the upgrade front - what about 5.1 to 5.9
« on: October 09, 2007, 12:49:13 PM »
I'm trying to get a handle around a 5.1 to 5.9 upgrade.  Anyone done this?

I'm trying to figure out the process.  Do I setup a new 5.1 Pivotal server with all the necessary software and then upgrade to 5.7 and then do it again upgrading to 5.9 or is there a way to jump from 5.1 to 5.9?

And what about what happens while the upgrade is underway?  Do I freeze my 5.1 system or keep very detailed notes on changes so they can be foled in manually?

Sure would appreciate experiences and thoughts on this.

The official route is that - 5.1 --> 5.7, add license stuff to 5.7 system, 5.7 --> 5.9.

The method that also works is to add the licensing stuff to the 5.1 system then step through the 5.1- 5.7 upgrade / 5.7 - 5.9 upgrade on your new 5.9 system. Saves you a system in between.

Also, a lot of the steps (like purging orphans / Invalid IDs) are duplicated between both upgrades, so will be alot easier the second time round.
