VB6 To WCF Web Service Problem
« on: August 28, 2013, 06:42:39 AM »
Hi all,
First posting on here, so hope it's in the right place.

I've been working with WA exclusively for way too many years now, but have hit an issue trying to integrate with a VB6 dll someone else here has written.
His phrasing of the problem is below:

We need pivotal to be able to talk via WCF to a web service. The current solution is as follows:
- we have a .net 4.0 assembly containing WCF proxy classes used for the comms.
- this assembly has a COMM Callable Wrapper (CCW), registered via regasm.
- We have a VB6 dll (creating with the ‘new active x dll’ option in the IDE) that is able to talk to that assembly via the CCW.
- We attempt to use this VB6 dll from inside Pivotal to communication with the web service. The basic communication with this dll is fine, as it holds a "HelloWorld" method which works absolutely fine. However, with Pivotal running in Debug mode, when we try to call one of the other VB6 methods, we get a "Automation error. The system cannot find the file specified" error.
- We’ve proven on the same machine with a VB6 test harness that calls the same dll that Pivotal does, that we can communicate successfully with the web service (which also responds perfectly when entering the required URL directly in to IE).

One other thing I've seen is that this CCW doesn't seem to be in the registry anywhere.

Hopefully someone has seen this before, and can help out somehow.

Thanks!
