Pivotal 5.9 dead in the mornings
« on: June 02, 2011, 06:55:22 PM »
We've been having a problem with Piv 5.9 ever since installing the udpate and new licensing mechanism.  Everything is running fine the night before yet when we come in the next morning Pivotal cannot get past the license validation.  The error message reads:

Unspecified error
Error encountered in system license file verification
Description:
Error encountered in system license file verification.
Timeout expired

Followed by about a foot of HRESULT messages.

We never get an error during the day.  it is as if something is going to sleep for being terminated due to lack of use and then in the morning things won't start up again.  We solve the issue by rebooting the LCS server.

Anyone ever run into this type of situation?

No however we have gotten messages indicating that:

The Licensing System Verification has failed and that the information is inconsistant.

Refreshing to see your response - this board is always so dead!  We worked this out.  It was a problem with some of the core Piv 5.9 software and a very long running Pivotal Agent task that kicked off each night.  We eliminated the Agent job and the problem went away; however, Pivotal also fully understood the problem and probably fixed it as well.

if you're running P59, then upgrade to use Syncstream 6 sp8 or higher and take advantage of the new license mechanism that Pivotal has introduced; they're thrown away Sentinel (yay! - it was crap) and replaced it with their own home-grown license module that is fully emebedded within the database; as long as your database is up and running, your licensing will be up and running, using SyncStream 6 sp8 or higher (which is backwards compatible with P59, as long as you meet the minimum P59 service pack requirements).

I can honestly say that this new license mechansim is far far better than the old Sentinel-based one.
